The wolf pine in my back yard
I think it looks epic from this angle. I just read an article that tells how a white pine, (normally possessing a single, fairly straight trunk), becomes a “wolf pine” after being attacked by white pine weevils early in it’s life. The weevil lifecycle injures the tree’s leader, resulting in side branches forming and bending up toward the light, resulting in a forked tree. The tree you see here has at least 5 large trunks branching off the main trunk, about 6 feet off the ground. Each branch is as large as a tree itself. I’ve wondered how this tree came to be in its current form. Now I know.
